What Is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient practice of developing harmony between body, mind and spirit. It is an exploration of who we are as human beings. It teaches us to be mindful of our thoughts and emotions, and it helps us heal both physically and internally. To master yoga is to master yourself; to dwell firm in the present moment.

Energy Work

Although kundalini yoga consists hugely of exercise, its nature is different from what we are used to. Instead of building physical strength or fitness, in yoga we work with the body's energy system to heal, clear cellular memory and the subconscious mind. Yoga works on all levels of our being, allowing us to constantly discover new depths within.

Techniques

In kundalini yoga we work a lot with pranayama (breathing), mantra (sound current) and mudra (hand position). We use asanas (yoga poses) sequenced in kriyas (yoga sets) to achieve various effects. Each set comes from a centuries-old tradition, designed by yoga masters of the past and passed on through generations.

"Yoga is not a thing you do to get better at something. It is an awakening to the subtle world within."

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

13. How do I approach Journey with Kundalini Yoga course?
Great question. Journey with Kundalini Yoga is the flagship course of our platform. It is meant to take you, quite literally, on a journey, allowing you to experience a whole breadth of deep and transformational kundalini yoga practices. But actually, you may approach it in several different ways. First, you may do it from start to finish, in the intended order. This is best when you are just starting out and want variety. Secondly, you may have noticed that the practices are grouped in themed stages. You might want to focus on a single stage for a while, repeating the practices there for stronger benefits. And when you have found something crucial to your growth at the moment, you may pick one practice and do it regularly for an extended period of time. Yoga masters sometimes pick one thing and practice it for a 1000 days straight, in order to, well, truly master it. You don't have to go to such lengths, but it is important to understand that yoga is not a race. This course is not meant to be done in one go and forgotten. Rather, those practices are meant to serve you for a lifetime. Just listen to your body, and do what works for you best.
14. How is yoga different from regular exercise?
Very different. Normal exercise is designed to make you fitter and stronger, and can be divided into cardio, strength and stretching. Yoga incorporates them all, but with a different purpose in mind. Getting fitter and stronger is merely a side effect. The goal is to establish balance and harmony within; to learn to control the body and mind. Thus, yoga is above all a spiritual practice.
15. Why are some exercises so weird?
In kundalini yoga, we work primarily with energy. We use breath in sync with movement, as well as special techniques such as mantra, mudra and pranayama. Yes, some of those are pretty weird (have tried elephant walk already, haven't you? ;) ). But hey, they work - and this is the important thing. Just stick with it for a while, and see the benefits for yourself.

Benefits

There are many benefits to the practice of Kundalini Yoga. Yoga will help you heal your body and maintain it in good shape. It will calm your mind and increase your self-awareness. It will teach you to remain mindful, absorbed in the present moment. And finally, it will expand your understanding of yourself, your life and the world around you.
